Creating a character overnight

Helping hospitals help kids.

“Sparky the Lightning Bug” is a fun, fast, and friendly character developed as a sub-logo for a Chicago children’s hospital. He was created to brighten the darkness and light the way to better health; delivering bright ideas and feel-good messages to children during their stay.

Myself, and two other designers were pulled-in at the last minute to sketch out the character — overnight. Two of my concepts were chosen to present to the client, and this one went on to be developed and tested by the hospital.
